Update – January 2022 – Maunsel House is currently closed and as far as we are aware not taking any bookings for weddings or events. This article is purely a reference to an event JAM Duo were involved in there in 2021.
With Covid restrictions gradually starting to ease, we were delighted to get an invitation to perform at Maunsel House near Bridgwater.
Maunsel House is a magnificent 13th Century Manor set in 100 acres of stunning parkland at the heart of a sprawling 2,000 acre estate, comprising of farms, lakes, woodlands, walnut groves, orchards. Today it is home to Sir Benjamin Slade and run as a B&B and Somerset wedding venue.
Performing during Afternoon Tea
The afternoon tea was outside under their beautiful Pergola which can seat up to 220, although for this event numbers were limited to 40. The pergola is covered with scented climbing plants such as wisteria, jasmine and roses. At dusk the chimineas and fairy lights are lit adding a touch of magic to an already atmospheric setting.
Our brief was to entertain the guests with some gentle background music. Being outside, and knowing the penchant for the weather on Bank Holiday’s we were relieved to see that the pergola was in fact undercover although it very much felt like being outside.
We played for about 90 minutes at Maunsel House whilst their guests were served with a rather splendid afternoon tea. Our set was an eclectic mix of classical, jazz and some covers of contemporary songs. Even though we were outside there was no need to additional amplification and we were reliably informed our music could be heard throughout the Pergola and even in the kitchens of the main house!
JAM Duo performed at our venue at an afternoon tea event and really added a special atmosphere with their music. With a huge variety of song choices I would highly recommend them to anyone and we look forward to working with them again in the future.
