The sun was shining as we made our way into Somerset for today’s wedding at Orchardleigh House. The last time we were there in fact we were at an adjacent venue on the same estate which is Elmhay Park. On that occasion we were providing music for the wedding of Lewis and Carys.
Today, we were playing outside the main house for the stunning wedding of Sophie and Charlie.

Orchardleigh House
25 March 2022
On arrival at Orchardleigh House we were immediately impressed by the beautiful looking venue. With a history spanning three centuries, Orchardleigh Estate is one of the most magical wedding venues in the South West.
Orchardleigh House was built in 1856 by William Duckworth, the Estate previously owned by the Champneys, whose family had owned the Estate since the Norman Conquest.
Orchardleigh´s indefinable English charm is testimony to the Estate changing family ownership only twice in 800 years. Veiled in a tranquil bowl of parklands and lakes, its horizon a sweeping backdrop of rolling Somerset hills, the Poet Laureate Sir Henry Newbolt, (1863-1938) was inspired to write his finest works from his love of Orchardleigh it´s Island Church.
Sophie and Charlie’s Wedding Ceremony
The wedding ceremony today was held in the Belvedere.
This breathtaking outdoor ceremony area can seat up to 144 guests. As the name suggests, this stunning space offers the most beautiful views across the estate and beyond.
Music for the Ceremony
As Sophie made her grand entrance, we played the Theme from Beauty and the Beast by Alan Menken. This is a very popular choice and hinted towards Sophie’s love of musical theatre – more on that later.
Whilst the register was being signed, JAM Duo played a blend of ‘And this is my Beloved‘ from Kismet, seamless transitioned into Gabriel’s Oboe by Morricone. The ceremony then ended with the newly married couple walking out to ‘Dancing in the Moonlight‘ by Sherman Kelly.
Wedding Drinks Reception
With the weather remaining glorious, we were outside for the drinks reception and set up on the patio at the rear of the house.
Sophie had asked for a lot of music from musical theatre. And so that formed the majority of our playlist during the drinks reception. We switched seamlessly to our electric cello as a little subtle amplification really helps when we are playing outside.
