JAM Duo travel all over the UK to play for weddings. Today we were up near Blackpool for the lovely wedding of Gail and Anthony at The Villa in Wrea Green.
The Wedding of Gail and Anthony
Venue – The Villa, Wrea Green
Date – Saturday 5 March 2022
With this being a bit of a trek from our home in the Cotswolds, we drove up on Friday evening and stayed over in a Premier Inn just on the edge of Blackpool. With the wedding starting at 1pm we had a little time in the morning to explore Blackpool. This meant a trip down the famous ‘Golden Mile’, although with the tide in the sand wasn’t very evident. It was also freezing cold and extremely windy! But a trip to Blackpool would seem incomplete without at least making some effort to see the sea and of course the famous Tower.
The Wedding
Our brief today was to play for the wedding drinks reception followed by the wedding breakfast. This meant we had to set up in two locations at the venue. Arriving in good time, today we had bought our electric cello and piano shell.
Fortunately there was a piano in the ‘Piano Room’ which we could use for the drinks reception so to save time we got our Digital Piano and Piano Shell set up ready for the wedding breakfast.
Today, we had only brought our electric cello as we were not playing for the ceremony. Whilst this means we need a small PA system, it does give more flexibility and means we can be heard in a room full of chatter! We have found that our electric cello also gets noticed by wedding guests with its stylish design and frame.
As we were not playing for the wedding ceremony on this occasion, we got to see Gail making her entrance with her Son.
Wedding Drinks Reception
Setting up in the ‘Piano Room’ at Wrea Green, we were ready to play as the newly weds and their guests came out of the ceremony for a drinks reception.
Gail and Anthony had only specified ‘light classical’ as their music choice so we played a mixture of classical pieces and some covers to fit the mood and suit the ambience of the occasion.
At 3pm we seamlessly moved into an adjacent room so we could carry on providing music during the Wedding breakfast.
Music for the Wedding Breakfast
Having used the hotel’s piano in ‘The Piano room’ we had installed our beautiful gloss black piano shell ready to use during the wedding breakfast. It was therefore fairly easy to just carry our electric cello into the room and simply plug in to the small speaker which we had placed under the piano. Within moments the music carried on as the guests entered for the wedding breakfast.
Using some subtle amplification our electric cello blended beautifully with the digital piano to provide sublime background music during the wedding breakfast. Enough to provide ambience but set so it wasn’t intrusive on guests chatting.
