The Upper House – Wedding Venue
Situated just outside of Stoke on Trent, in a peaceful, rural location, this country house was originally built in 1845. Today, the house has been converted into a luxurious privately owned hotel with many beautiful original features.
The Upper House is a former Wedgwood residence, built for Josiah Wedgwood’s grandson, Francis Wedgwood. The house still retains its original charm, with extensive period decoration and traditional character. It is also a highly demanded wedding venue.
The Wedding
With the weather so glorious the stage was set for an outdoor wedding ceremony. This is no problem for us as, even with our electric cello, we can set up and play anywhere thanks to our portable power supply.
Arriving in good time, we had plenty of time to unload and set up and even found time for a coffee in the hotel bar beforehand.
For the bride’s arrival we played a mashup of A Million Dreams going into A Thousand Years which heralded the arrival of the bridesmaids and then the bride respectively. With quite a long walk in from the hotel there was plenty of music for the entrance of the bridal party.
After the ceremony we also played for the drinks reception which entailed moving ourselves about 10 feet to the left, mostly just to find some shade!
When it comes to playing outside, we do our best not to play in direct sunlight but also tend not to make a fuss about this. Generally we can find an area of suitable shade which is absolutely fine for our purposes.
JAM Duo – Wedding Musicians in Staffordshire
Jules and Anne-Marie play for weddings all over the UK but we particularly enjoy weddings in Staffordshire as Anne-Marie grew up on the edge of Stafford.
