Today’s wedding was our first visit to Davenport House near Bridgnorth in Shropshire.
Lovingly restored in 2017, this magnificent Grade I listed Georgian country house is the place where dreams come true. With original, authentic features, Davenport House is a family home steeped in history. Brought to life once again by its custodians, Joseph and Elizabeth Adams, it is now an enchanting destination intended for the joy and celebration of weddings.
The Wedding
Nicola and Robert
Davenport House, Shropshire
Sunday 18 December 2022
Being mid December this was very much a Christmas themed wedding. It was also a military wedding with Rob being in full uniform along with a lot of the male guests.
Music Choices – Wedding Ceremony
On this occasion all our dialogue and planning had been with Rob the Groom. Whilst unusual, it’s not unheard of and he had chosen some great music for the ceremony:
Pre Ceremony
Can you feel the love tonight
Game of thrones-main theme
Now we are free (Hans zimmer) from Gladiator
Jurassic park main theme
Nobody does it better
Bridal Entrance
Cannon in D
Signing
The Wild rover
Shamrock- tell me ma
Exit
Dancing in the moonlight
You can hear a lot of these songs and many more by visiting our listen page.
Wedding Drinks Reception
Conveniently for us, the drinks reception was held in the same space as the ceremony. A quick shuffling of some chairs whilst the guests were occupied with the confetti shot, and everything was rearranged for drinks.
We moved slightly from our position at the front of the ceremony to just beside the fireplace.
For the reception we had been given more flexibility in terms of music but with a request for some Robbie Williams mixed in with a blend of upbeat songs. The most specific request was for our last song to be ‘You’ve Lost that Loving Feeling’. Whilst the lyrics might not immediately seem the most obvious for a wedding I did learn that it features in the film Top Gun at a particularly romantic point. And of course, our arrangement for piano and cello doesn’t contain lyrics!
We particularly liked the sword next to the wedding cake. It’s uncertain if it had been deliberately placed there as a means of cutting the cake later, or whether a passing soldier had put it down during the drinks reception!
Either way this was a fabulous wedding and we thoroughly enjoyed being part of Rob and Nic’s special day. We wish them every happiness in their married life together.
