With the Lake District being quite a distance from our home in the Cotswolds and in particular with today’s ceremony starting at 12.30 we decided to travel up to Kendal the night before so we only had a short distance to travel on the morning of the wedding. Whilst we don’t mind an early start, if it’s not necessary that is always welcome and means we don’t have to worry about traffic!

Ceremony and Drinks
When we arrived at the hotel there was a degree of uncertainty about the location of the wedding ceremony. The couple, like many couples were very keen to have the wedding outside. And quite honestly you can see why. The views were stunning from the outdoor ceremony looking out over Ullswater.
The weather however had ideas of its own. Nevertheless we are very happy to play inside or outdoors in accordance with our couples wishes. The only criteria is that our instruments cannot get wet as this would completely destroy them and then impact our ability to play at other weddings in the near future!
Fortunately there was a gazebo and the registrars agreed to let us set up in there. It wasn’t perfect but it just about enabled us to keep dry and provide music outdoors for Rachel and Andrew.
Music for the Ceremony
Rachel and Andrew had chosen some great music for their ceremony:
Pre ceremony
Killing me softly
Tale as old as time
I will always love you
Every breath you take
Can’t help falling in love elvis
Bridal Entrance
A thousand years
Signing
Somewhere over the rainbow
Unchained melody
Exit
Here comes the sun
We particularly enjoyed playing Here Comes the Sun at the end of the ceremony – and ironically after that moment the weather did clear up and the sun appeared!
The Wedding Drinks Reception
For the drinks, we returned inside the hotel and set up in the Lounge where a lot of guests were gathering. From here we could continue to entertain the guests as they enjoyed drinks still with the fabulous view across Ullswater.
We really enjoyed being a part of Rachel and Andrew’s Wedding in the Lake District and it was a pleasure to entertain their guests with our music. The Weather always presents its own challenges for outdoor weddings but we were so glad we were able to find a way to play for the ceremony outside even if some of the guests were getting a little wet!
We wish Rachel and Andrew every happiness as they embark on their married life together.
As our booking was only for ceremony and drinks today we had a little time to spare before heading down to Chester for tomorrow’s wedding and so we stopped off at a nice lakeside cafe for some afternoon tea to enjoy the brief moment of sunshine!
