Our first stop today was Maidford for a church ceremony where the 13th Century parish Church is dedicated to St Peter and St Paul. It’s a grade II listed building in Maidford, a small village in the Northamptonshire countryside.
Famous for its rare ‘saddleback’ tower. Mentioned in the Saxon Geld Roll and again in the Doomsday Book as the settlement of Meredford Manor.

Ceremony and Drinks Reception
The Church Ceremony
Maidford is a lovely Northamptonshire village just near to the town of Towcester. Arriving in good time we found the church and it was nice to see that it was already open and available for us to set up with the flowers having already been installed.

As well as playing as a duo for the church service Jules was also playing the hymns on the church organ. It wasn’t the best instrument but it was mostly in good order and was reasonably in tune so perfectly acceptable for playing the hymns. There was limited singing from the guests, but we did notice the bride enjoying singing the hymns!
The Drinks Reception
After the church service, we then packed away our instruments and kit, reloaded the car and drove a few miles to nearby Slapton Manor where we had been booked to provide music during the outdoor drinks reception. Arriving just ahead of the guests we were fortunate enough to find a space near to the reception area to unload which meant set up was a breeze. Within 10 minutes of arriving at the second venue we were ready again to start playing.
We really enjoyed being a part of Ben and Elaine’s wedding. During the drinks reception our set included the following songs:

We then added a few songs of our own choice but in a similar vein to those chosen by the couple and played for around 2 hours whilst the guests enjoyed drinks and canapés in the sunshine.
