Today was the long anticipated wedding of Emily and Louis which was a two location setup starting at Ripon Cathedral for the ceremony and then on to Wynyard Hall for the reception.

Our first involvement with Emily and Louis’ wedding was to provide music for the ceremony at Ripon Cathedral. Here we were playing all the music with the exception of the hymns which were played by the Cathedral Organist.

To keep things simple and because we had to seamlessly relocate to Wynyard Hall the moment the ceremony had ended, we used our acoustic cello in the ceremony along with a piano in the cathedral. This meant we didnt have any gear to set up and walked in with everything we needed in one go. Emily and Louis had also organised us parking nearby which was very helpful! Although we did nearly get blocked in by the Bride’s Father and escaped with millimetres to spare after the ceremony!

The original plan had been for us to play for half the ceremony and then get to the reception ahead of all the guests, set up our grand piano shell and be ready to provide music for the arrival into the drinks reception. Given there was nearly an hour of driving between the venues, we decided this was potentially a risky plan and after some discussion it was agreed that a Sax would play during the drinks.

This meant we could play for all the ceremony at Ripon Cathedral before making our way up to Wynyard Hall where we would be providing music during the wedding breakfast. Once we had set up for the meal we had a little time to look around Wynyard Hall – Jules typically managed to find an organ in the small chapel and since no one said otherwise had a little go on it! Quite a magical moment! Look out for the video on instagram!

Emily and Louis made a grand entrance by helicopter around half way through the drinks reception – only the second time we have seen this happen in the 500 or so weddings we have played at to date! There were numerous lovely touches at this wedding from the two diggers outside the entrance to Wynyard Hall to the beautiful setting of the meal room, a fabulous cake and the sweet cart. Later on after we left there were also fireworks in the grounds as a surprise for the guests. This was a truly beautiful wedding and it was such fun to be part of it.

Emily had been very specific about the music for the wedding breakfast and we certainly had plenty of music to play as the guests enjoyed a wonderful meal in such beautiful surroundings:
