Following yesterday’s wedding in Dorset, we drove up to the Lake District overnight, staying at a local premier inn. It was very important we had an early start for today’s wedding as it was a two venue setup. Whilst the wedding would be starting in the church of St Patricks, Patterdale, our day started much earlier at Inn on the Lake. When we are playing for a church wedding following by the reception elsewhere this not only makes for a long day but it requires a lot of addtional logistics to ensure everything flows smoothly on the day.

Church Wedding – St Patrick’s, Patterdale
Reception – Inn on the Lake Ullswater
The church wedding was booked for 12.30. This however, meant we needed to get our piano shell and keyboard setup in the hotel before 10am. Luckily the church had a piano so we were able to plan ahead. Whilst the church piano was the usual box of slightly out of tune strings, it was fortunately just good enough to tune up with our cello and provide an acceptable level of music for the couple. On this occasion this suited us perfectly and meant we could be pre set up at the hotel and seamlessly carry on playing music during the reception as the couple and their guests arrived. (Even if this did mean driving our Landrover over a field to get out of the church parking!) – Luckily we come prepared for all eventualities!

Having only brought our electric cello into the church it was then a quick backdown and short drive back to the Inn on the Lake to continue playing during the drinks reception and meal. We did have to relocate from the lounge to the meal room, but with our Grand Piano Shell this only took ten minutes at the most.
Charlotte and Matthew’s favourite song is Come What May, so this appeared on more than one occasion during the day at their request!

We really enjoyed being a part of Charlotte and Matthew’s Wedding in the delightful surroundings of Ullswater in Cumbria. As the wedding was in fact the day after Anne-Marie’s birthday, we took the opportunity to stay in the lakes for a couple of days and enjoyed some time at The Gilpin Hotel where we will be returning to next year for a wedding.
