JAM Duo (Cello and Piano Duo) were on stage during this year’s Garden Party at the Bishop’s Palace in Wells.
With a prime slot at 3pm on Saturday afternoon, JAM Duo had the honour of entertaining the visitors to this 6th annual Garden Party to be held in the RHS gardens of the Bishop’s Palace in Wells, Somerset.
Being an outdoor gig we had to make use of the PA system which was provided. This worked well and with a little subtle mic’ing we were able to balance the piano and cello so they could be heard throughout the gardens without being over powering.
Playing Outdoors
JAM Duo are just as comfortable playing outdoors as inside. The only difference is, depending on the space we tend to close mic the cello just to provide a little boost to the acoustic sound. Done properly, this doesn’t really change the tone of the instruments or the balance with the piano but just gives us an edge when we are outside. This is particularly relevant somewhere like the Bishop’s Palace Garden Party where our audience were seated at some distance from us.
Music for a Garden Party
For each and every event we are involved in we always create a bespoke set. This will be determined by the ambience to be created the intended audience and any requests, particularly in the case of weddings. Here, however, the choice was entirely ours. So on that basis we tried to include a little something for everyone. From classical favourites to jazz and blues songs of the twentieth century, a few numbers by The Beatles and some modern contemporary covers of songs by Ellie Goulding and Ed Sheeran to name but a couple.
