Today was a little jaunt down the M5 into Devon for Pippa and Toby’s Wedding. Allowing a bit of time we found a moment to stop en route for a spot of breakfast in Greggs. Yes ok, not the most stylish option but when you spend as long as we do driving around the country it suddenly becomes quite a decent and reasonably priced breakfast proposition.
Breakfast done we carried on to our destination which was Deer House Country Park near Honiton. Arriving with 45 minutes or so to spare we first diverted into Honiton for a quick scout round the charity shops – Jules found a rather pleasing blue waistcoat which will feature in some future weddings! It was then time to make our way to the venue.

The Wedding Ceremony
On arrival we met with a very nice gentleman at Deer Park who was kind enough to show us all the locations we needed to be during the day. Firstly was the ceremony which was being held outside by the Summerhouse. This was a bit of a trek from the car park but no matter, assistance was provided in the form of a golf buggy!

This was a definite first for us, and also a great way of getting around the venue with our instruments!
As instructed, we set up to one side of the ceremony area which afforded us a great view of proceedings in a delightful setting surrounded by the Devon Countryside.

Music for the Ceremony
Pre Ceremony
Adele – make you feel my love
Ed Sheeran – Perfect
Florence – you got the love
Coldplay – Sky full of stars
Coldplay – Yellow
Bridal Entrance
Christina Perri – A thousand years
Signing
Elton John – Can you feel the Love tonight
Greatest Showman – A million dreams
Exit
Electric light Orchestra – Mr Blue sky
After the ceremony we packed away and were transported back to the venue with another buggy ride that took us right to the point we needed to set up for the drinks reception.
Music During Wedding Drinks
Once again we continued outside for the drinks reception which took place by the main house.

When it comes to music for any part of the day we always like to give our couples the choice. Some people list every song they want and some just tell us a style. There is lots of inspiration on our playlist over at the listen page. This is by no means our repertoire list but just some of the more popular songs which we have recorded. We are adding new songs all the time.
Pippa and Toby had given us a couple of song requests for their drinks reception which included Wonderwall by Oasis and Africa. We tried to ensure we played these when they were in ear shot. Despite being October as you can see from the photograph above it was a lovely sunny day with not a cloud in the sky and it was also pretty warm too.
After around 90 minutes the guests were then called inside for the speeches followed by the wedding breakfast – our cue to move location again. Luckily this time it was adjacent so took us moments to reset up.
The Wedding Breakfast
Once we had setup there was time to relax for half an hour or so whilst the speeches occurred. This gave us time to plan a set list for the meal. Usually we tend towards a more jazz / easy listening playlist at this point.

We played through the meal a variety of songs perhaps more piano focussed to blend into the background of the meal. The room had a lovely acoustic which hopefully meant we could be heard throughout the space without being too loud. All too soon it was time for us to pack away and head to our second gig of the day.
JAM Duo at Your Wedding
We had a lovely time at Pippa and Toby’s wedding. Everyone was so kind to us and the venue looked after us probably better than any venue has ever done so. They even provided us with sandwiches to take away when we said we didn’t have time to stay for a meal which had been provided. Along with the buggy ride to transport our kit we have honestly never come across a venue which is so helpful and understanding of musicians needs during the course of a wedding day. If you are getting married in Devon we would highly recommend looking at Deer Park Country House. If you want musicians too, then we would love to be part of your day either in Devon or anywhere else in the UK. Please do get in touch via our contact page.
