British Science Week, run by the British Science Association is a ten-day celebration of science, technology, engineering and maths, featuring entertaining and engaging events and activities across the UK for people of all ages.
This year in 2021, Science Week runs from the 5th to the 14th March, with the theme of ‘Innovating for the Future’.
In support of this we are sharing our recent recording of ‘The Scientist’ by Coldplay which is always a popular choice for weddings that we play for.
Innovating for the future is something we all need to start thinking about. There are a number of inspirational events being run as part of science week to further this discussion from Meet the Scientist events through to online science shows.
A lot of the focus is of course aimed at schools and encouraging more young scientists to further their studies at a higher level. It is also about changing the perception of scientists. As it says on the website:
What do you imagine when you’re asked what a scientist looks like? Are you picturing lab coats, goggles and conical flasks? How about the person? Are they a White man with grey hair, who resembles Albert Einstein?
Smashing Stereotypes – British Science Week Website.
If that’s who you pictured – you aren’t alone. But it’s something that we want to change!
